It doesn't make sense to me but is setting a trailing stop at less than 10 pips away simply stupid for some reason?

I mean, I could write the java code for a trailing stop at any number of pips but if it's stupid strategy-wise, I won't waste time on it.

Smart Trailing: automatic profit trailing for jForex

At the moment, as I'm learning, I pretty often move the SL as soon as the price has exceeded my entry with a small margin. Just to guarantee at least a tiny profit.

Especially, I try to leave an already profitable trade like that overnight to - occasionally - give myself a nice surprise in the morning. Trailing stops generally don't work well.

Market noise batters price around even if its tending strongly in one direction and you will find yourself exiting trades way to soon. Cant say I agree with you Global, I would rather leave a trade early with a small profit than risk losing everything because my stop was still below my entry point.

Keep on learning and practice what you have learned. Before you enter a trade, plan the trade plan based on probabilities that are more likely to yield positive than negative.

Your entries, stop loss and potential profit targets will be closer and closer to give you higher profits when the trade goes your way and lower loses when it doesn't. I rather let a trade ride and take a large win then to enter a trade, take a tiny win, then re-enter again at a worse price.

A pip trade rarely ever occurs that goes straight to the pip target without retracing 10 or 15 pips multiple times on its way there. What would end up happening is you buy, it goes up 25 pips in your direction, retraces 15, you take 10 pips profit with the trailing stop, then it goes back up and hits the pip mark where upon you are kicking yourself for not staying in the trade.

At some point, maybe at 50 pips in the green, it could be wise to move the stop to break even. But that's all the trailing that I'd do.

Any idea why jforex doesn't allow a trailing stop to be set at less than 10 pips?
