Im new to these forums, I've got a question about choosing a profesion for my character when WoD hits. Im not curently playing and I dont even have an account, I used to play in vanilla, bc, wrath than stopped for a while and Im planning on comming back when WoD launches. Here comes the question, Im planning on making brand new tauren lvl 90 shaman.

Im not planning on leveling another alts, because I dont like to have more characters than 1, just that I can fully focus on one character, so other I will have just the 2 professions What do you think would be the best choice?

Go transmutation spec, buy bars, transmute into whatever is profitable. This is a mostly a once a day business. You do the cooldown, put up for sale what you transmuted, and then go about your business. There's usually gold to be made by doing unlimited transmutes for bars and gems, but those are usually smaller markets with less profit especially if you have no professions to use these transmutes.

Go Elixir spec, buy or farm herbs, make flasks. This is a business that will scale with how much gold and time you put in. It can go from just a flask here and there from stuff you farm yourself, to full scale Flask market control if you invest enough time and gold which is unlikely if you have no previous gold stockpile. The third option is to go Potion spec, which works pretty much the same as Elixir spec, just with less demand of your products and a higher need for large scale production.

I'd recommend potion mastery, and hope that your server has a decent raiding population. You would have gained more money by just buying mats low and selling pots high but then you need money to start out and herbalism will help out in the beginning.

Herbalism is also decent nowdays when it comes to raiding and alchemy is really good. If your focus is to gear up for raiding or world PvP, potion making will help.

If all you want is mountains of gold, go transmute.
