If you're a Forsaken World newbie, the in-game currency can be a bit confusing at first. What are "Soul Coins", and how are they different from "Gold Coins"?

Which currency is more valuable in-game? How can you obtain both types of currency?

Here's some basic info about gold coins and how to get them. When you complete quests and sell items to vendors, you'll be given a type of currency called "Soul Coins". These aren't the same as gold coins. Forsaken World has two different types of currency that can be used for specific types of transactions.

Soul Coins aren't tradable, and may only be used for NPC transactions learning skills, buying potions, etc. Gold Coins are used for player-to-player transactions, such as those carried out on the Auction House. This may seem confusing at first, but it's actually an interesting and effective way to stop "gold farmers" and other people who use online economies as an exploit for personal profit.

If you're trying to purchase items off of the Auction House, you'll need to stock up on gold coins first. It's surprising how many players I talk to in-game that have no clue how to sell items on the Auction House. Most MMORPGs that I've played have some sort of global trading system, which is usually in the form of an Auction House or "World Market". In Forsaken World, selling items on the Auction House earns you gold coins, as opposed to soul coins. This means that when you AH sell items on the Auction House gear and materials, you'll be given a different type of currency than if you simply vendored or NPC'd - sold your items to an NPC vendor your stuff.

To obtain gear and materials that will sell well on the Auction House, you should be farming instances for gear, or spending your time using gathering skills to stock up on essential items. This is the method through which you can use "real" money to purchase gold coins in Forsaken World.

You can sell this statuette to any vendor for 1 gold coin, or you can complete the Mercury Statuette quest along with an Alchemy proxy to gain even more coins. There's also a "Mercury Statuette Trader" NPC in Freedom Harbor that will accept your statuette in exchange for gold coins. Mercury Statuettes can also be bought and sold on the Auction House at least in the current version of the game.
